UPDATE: Mark and Abby are brother and sister. This is their third litter of puppies. (This is NOT a good way to breed dogs!!) A second female with two of her puppies were confiscated from the same home and these new dogs are now in quarantine in a shelter.Evidently the mom had dug out a burrow in the ground to whelp out her pups. The two pups found in the burrow bit the AC Officer when he reached in to try to get them out - hence the quarantine. They mom seems to be scared but more amenable to humans while the puppies are simply petrified of people. They are probably between six and eight weeks old.

Update #2: Here are the puppies at two weeks and again with Mom, Abby. Cute little fat beasts aren't they ?

UPDATE #3: Mark has been trying to die all week - he has been so ill with pneumonia that at one point I thought it would be better to put him to sleep, butI have not been able to get close enough to touch him. So getting a collar and leash on him has been impossible. This weekend was a turn around for him though. He wagged his tail at me yesterday, and today he came to the gate of his run to greet me when I took his food to him. He is still breathing with a crackle in his lungs that one can hear 20 feet away, and his nose is still all plugged up, but he looks a tad better. Hooray!! I hope he is on the road to recovery!

Update #4: Mark allowed me to touch him for the first time yesterday! As I bent down to put his food dish on the ground he came and licked my face - that was a tad uncomfortable as he could just as easily have ripped out my jugular vein! Instead, he stood while I put my hand out and rubbed the top of his head, then I slowly scratched behind his ear and slid my hand alongside his face. He wagged his tail the whole time and only  moved away when I moved. What a change from the dog who raced away from me - often into the Igloo - but certainly not within 10 feet of me, if he thought I might try to touch him.  He is growing his coat in and is going to be magnificent when he is all healed. Thank you Mark for trusting that i shall not hurt you...

This is Mark, probably the father of the litter pictured above.
